understanding bsl

Breed specific legislation or “BSL” is an ordinance restricting ownership of certain identified breeds of dogs. The ban is based on physical characteristics of prohibited breeds or even prohibits specific breeds. Part of this canine inequality includes bans based purely on "what a dog looks like". BSL has restricted ownership of breeds like Rottweilers, Dobermans, & Mastiffs but sadly, the ineffective and unfair legislation focuses more on "pit bull type" dogs. We urge you to reach out to your local shelters to see how you can help. Need guidance on where to start please feel free to contact us. Let’s bridge that gap between animal and human welfare!
Established in 2019, the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative is a collective of animal shelters, rescues, advocates, and sanctuaries in the region that are interested in coming together to advance various causes in animal welfare and to increase the collective resources available to these agencies.
